Sr Mechanical Expert

The Sr. Mechanical Expert is responsible for supporting the Kansas City site process teams in achieving their production goals, site mechanical standardization, and identifying/implementing improvement projects in close interaction with local and global engineering functions. Mentor, coach, and develop mechanical engineers across the site. The Sr. Expert is a renowned expert and technical leader within the Active Ingredient Manufacturing organization.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Sr. Mechanical Expert, are to:
  • Set direction and provide overall leadership to site mechanical technical support teams through the implementation of best practices and people leadership;
  • Guide site plant/faciality engineers in evaluating and achieving plant performance goals;
  • Execute the functional leadership for the mechanical maintenance and engineering operations on site;
  • Provide direction and leadership to ensure efficiency of the technical mechanical functions on site;
  • Drive implementation of mechanical best practices and adherence to local, U.S. regulatory and Bayer Directives/Guidelines;
  • Manage all mechanical technical matters according to local technical and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure successful execution of technical, QHSE compliance and sustainability considerations in the planning, design and execution of investment projects;
  • Coordinate and assure uniformity in technical standards and technical operations on site;
  • Responsible for compliance with internal and external technical regulatory requirements and good engineering practices, improving process technology, and ensure that sound engineering practices and state of the art technology is used for new installations;
  • Responsible to ensure proper technical documentation onsite. Manage and drive site Instrument, Mechanical Standardization efforts;
  • Be responsible for all site electrical and instrumentation areas of maintenance, investments and initiatives;
  • Represent the Kansas City and partner with regional and global mechanical communities/teams;
  • Lead the KC Mechanical community;
  • Coordination with Global Finance for asset creation;
  • Coordination with procurement to facilitate execution of project work (project set-up and closure);
  • Accountable for mid to large capital coordination of capital projects (i.e. BaySims) for one of the three production units on site.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or similar field;
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, exceptional technical skills including the ability to understand applicable process technology, in order to effectively analyze, recommend and make complex decisions;
  • Superior ability to analyze and troubleshoot process operations;
  • Proven track record of successful technical implementation of several new manufacturing processes into commercial scale;
  • Proven ability to work on numerous projects/initiatives at the same time;
  • Experience with new plant design, construction and start up is a key requirement;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as a leader/facilitator and team member;
  • Very strong ability to lead and motivate a multidisciplinary team; excellent collaboration and influence skills and the ability to interact with all levels of organization from leadership to operations;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Knowledgeable of RCRA hazardous waste regulations, waste determinations, waste codes, and how to immediately communicate discovery of spills and leaks;
  • Also, must know labeling, inspection, and recordkeeping requirements to accumulate waste in: satellite accumulation areas, containers, and tanks.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or similar field with 12 years of chemical manufacturing experience or technical support of chemical operations or similar Masters with 10+ years of experience.
