The Health, Safety, and Environmental Generalist is expected to collaborate with employees across the sites and handle basic activities in Bayer systems.
The Health, Safety and Environmental Generalist can be in the facility of Huxley, Iowa or Urbandale, Iowa.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) Generalist, are:
- Lead and drive actions to increase site(s) culture on HSE and drive employee engagement. Use data driven analysis to perform decision on strategic paths to improve culture. Drive continuous improvement on the management system and safety culture through visible leadership;
- Acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for safety and environmental programs (OSHA, DOH, EPA, etc.) and guide, mentor, train and coach Program Owners and site personnel to ensure overall compliance of specific safety programs. Ensure the freedom of operation of the sites by compliance with legislation and the corporate requirements related to the environment, safety and occupational medicine. Lead HSE compliance audits, inspections, and risk assessments, including participation during corporate audits;
- Collaborate cross-functionally with multi-disciplinary groups, such as Site Leads, Regional HSE, Site HSE and technical personnel to establish cost effective and appropriate measures to reduce risks, comply with safety and health regulations, and to realize established objectives. Work across teams to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of site procedures to assure personnel, contractor and facility compliance to regulatory and company requirements;
- Actively champion the collection, dissemination, and execution of best practices sharing within the site teams and across other applicable sites. Get acquainted to operations and teams at the site, influencing operations and safety to be one. Act as a change agent to effectively identify, communicate, and further evolve continuous improvement efforts with the intent to increase efficiency and reduce risks;
- Ensure completion of incident investigations, root cause analysis, and trend analysis for incidents, including the identification of corrective actions, tracking actions to completion, and verification of the effectiveness of actions taken;
- Support preparation of HSE permits and reports to ensure regulatory compliance with the operation and construction of air permits, waste management, worker protection, and Tier II requirements;
- Provide technical and functional support to capital projects, new equipment purchases, expansions, mergers & acquisitions, divestments, and expense spending related to site improvement plans;
- Influence key partners in a cross-functional environment to drive results, innovation, and collaboration at multi-functional teams;
- Collaborate with HSE Coordinators, Specialists and Technicians across the region to ensure compliance, consistency and use of best practices across different Bayer sites.
- Active participation on programs such as CMR. Participate daily on applicable Tier 1 to 3 to FUP on Safety concerns;
- Promote an environment that continuously meets and improves established Bayer (HSE) Health, Safety and Environment manufacturing fundamentals.
WHO YOU AREBayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:- Minimum of a B.A. or B.S. in an Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or Safety management, or related field;
- Prior professional experience related to HSE within the agricultural, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, research, healthcare or chemical Industry;
- Valid Driver's License. To be eligible to drive a company car, your driving record must meet guidelines based on the company's Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers - MVR will be reviewed as part of pre-employment screening;
- Outstanding leadership & communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence others through oral or written means;
- Ability to work during days, weekends, and overtime as business needs require;
- Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. (a bag of seed).
Preferred Qualifications:- At least four years of progressive, or master's degree and two years of professional experience related to HSE within the agricultural, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, research, healthcare or chemical Industry;
- Technical experience and acumen with OSHA, EPA, and State Specific requirements;
- Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards that impact operations;
- Experience implementation ISO-like HSE Management Systems;
- Professional designation (CSP, RSO, CIH, CHMM, etc.)
