Job Description
- Safely operate a commercial grain truck to transport grain commodities such as wheat, corn, soybeans, and barley from farms, grain elevators, or storage facilities to processing plants, terminals, or distribution centers.
- Adhere to all relevant regulations and safety standards governing the transportation of agricultural commodities, including Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and fluid levels, to ensure safe operation and compliance with mechanical requirements.
- Load and unload grain using appropriate equipment and techniques, such as augers, conveyors, or pneumatic systems, following established procedures to prevent spills, contamination, or other safety hazards.
- Secure loads with straps, tarps, or other restraints as needed to prevent shifting or loss of cargo during transportation, ensuring compliance with weight limits and load distribution guidelines.
- Plan and execute efficient transportation routes to maximize productivity and customer satisfaction while minimizing fuel consumption and vehicle wear and tear.
- Monitor weather conditions, road closures, and traffic updates to adjust travel plans and ensure timely delivery of grain commodities to designated destinations.
- Maintain accurate records of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery activities using electronic logging devices (ELDs) or paper-based logbooks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and customers to coordinate delivery schedules, report delays or incidents, and provide updates on delivery status.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards in all aspects of job performance, including proper vehicle maintenance, cargo handling, and customer interactions.
